UW Men's Soccer Opens MPSF Play With Win Over Air Force

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Washington scored twice in the final 18 minutes of play to open Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play with a win, improving to 6-4-2 overall. The Huskies will play MPSF newcomer Denver on Sunday at 2 p.m. MT.
After a strong first-half performances by both goalkeepers, Air Force received a break when UW defender Bryn Ritchie was issued his second yellow card of the game and was ejected at 62:39. The Falcons played a man up for only 10 minutes however. A shot by sophomore Benjamin Somoza was heading into the goal when Falcon defender Brendon Harrison knocked it away with his hands, resulting in an ejection and a penalty kick. Somoza scored on the PK to give Washington the lead at 72:53.
Junior Mark Hogenhout scored two minutes later. Sophomore Greg Foisie intercepted a clear by keeper Richie Cullen and passed off to Hogenhout, who pooched the ball over the keeper's head at 74:49.
UW netminder James Dickinson, making his second start of the season, recorded seven saves for his first shutout win. The Huskies were outshot, 14-13, for only the second time this season.
