The University of Washington is committed to the principle of institutional control in operation of its intercollegiate athletics programs, consistent with the letter and spirit of the NCAA, the Big Ten Conference and the University of Washington rules and regulations.
This commitment and obligation to operate the intercollegiate athletics program in adherence to the principle of institutional control is both institutional and individual. The UW demonstrates that commitment through:
- Responsible leadership of administrators, faculty, and institutional bodies
- Educating coaches, staff members, student-athletes and outside entities on NCAA, Big Ten and University regulations
- Developing operating systems within the Intercollegiate Athletics Department, which enable a culture of compliance to proactively discover, investigate and report violations of rules that occur

UW Compliance Office
Our essential functions include:
- Educating coaches, student-athletes, staff, supporters, and prospective student-athletes about NCAA, Big Ten, and UW rules and expectations.
- Providing accurate and timely interpretations of rules and assisting in compliance efforts.
- Monitoring activities within the ICA Department and the University in critical areas such as recruiting, eligibility certification, financial aid, amateurism, benefits, playing and practice seasons, and ensuring compliance with all applicable rules.
- Offering the highest level of service and coordinating various institutional programs for the benefit of current and prospective student-athletes.
- Investigating and reporting violations of NCAA, Big Ten, and UW regulations.
