After a big loss like we had against Connecticut, we definitely wanted to
step it up and show what we were made of. We wanted to show what we were
all about, because it definitely wasnt what everyone saw Friday night
(against Connecticut). As the game went on, we got into a flow and took
care of the ball. We never buried a team last year and that was something
we wanted to do, get up by 20 and keep working on the lead. We did a good
job of that tonight.
Senior guard Megan Franza
We worked on our press tonight and it was nice to see we could get in
there and cause some things to happen. Weve been working on that a lot in
practice. It was nice to come out and be able to execute some things that
we havent done too much in games yet.
Tonight was important for our team and its confidence, especially the underclassmen. The upperclassmen have been in situations like this before, but to come off a loss like we had to Connecticut, it was important to get right back out there and get in a flow. We had to make sure everyone had their heads on straight. The upperclassmen know what kind of talent we have and what were dealing with, so it was important for us to come out and play and get our confidence back.
We realize what its like for June to come back here. The whole city of Boise loves her and she had a great career here. Its important for us to represent her in the best way we can, by playing our hardest.
UW head coach June Daugherty
I felt good about our defense tonight and that we forced 25 turnovers. We
were aggressive in our press and that gave us some momentum to get the big
lead and start building on it in the first half. Our freshman point guard,
Giuliana Mendiola, had a spectacular game with 19 points, four assists and
no turnovers. She played well. I am encouraged to see her floor leadership
out there.
Boise State came out with an aggressive press of their own andplayed really hard. They started hitting some of those threes in the second half and starting closing the gap a little bit and forced us to change a few things defensively.
This was a pivotal game for us. I thought it was a character test and a real test of our leadership. We definitely came out with an A+ in both areas, coming off that loss to Connecticut.
