With 28 points tonight, Husky freshman Loree Payne upped her UW season
total to 498 points to become Washingtons all-time leader in single-season
scoring by a freshman, breaking the previous record of 475 points by
Carlin McClary in 1978-79.
Payne's points also tied a career-high, besting her season and career high
in field goal attempts with 24. Payne made 12 of those shots for a .500
percentage.
Today marks Payne's eighth game with 20 points or more in 1999-2000, and
ties her with junior Megan Franza for eighth all-time in single-season
scoring with 475.
Washington's 40 points at the half were its most halftime points since
posting a similar 40 points in the first half at Arizona on Jan. 15.
The Trojans' first lead of the game came at 12:09 of the second half,
taking a 48-44 lead off of a 19-4 run. Washington had led by as many as 17
in the first half, holding a 31-14 advantage with just over 6 minutes to
play before the break.
Trojan coach Chris Gobrecht tonight earned her first win over Washington
in Seattle since leaving the Husky head coaching helm before the 1995-96
season. The win is USC's first OT win in three tries in 1999-2000.
Husky forward Emily Autrey recorded a career-high 12 rebounds.
USC dominated the glass at their end of the court in the second half,
pulling down 19 offensive rebounds to the Huskies' 11 defensive boards.
USC's 19 steals tied their season-high, the previous best coming versus
Notre Dame Dec. 27. The steals were the most by a Husky opponent this
year.
Trojan Tiffany Washington recorded her third double-double this season
with 13 points and 14 rebounds.
USC's Tiffany Elmore also scored a season-high 21 points.
