Women's Tennis Picks Up Another Win; Defeats Pac-10 Foe Oregon, 6-1

SEATTLE - The 17th-ranked Washington women's tennis team won all six singles matches Friday en route to its sixth straight victory, a 6-1 Pacific-10 Conference women's tennis win over No. 49 Oregon at the Lloyd Nordstrom Tennis Center.
The Huskies improved to 10-4 overall with a 3-1 Pac-10 record. The Ducks dropped to 3-8 and remained winless in six Pac-10 dual matches.
Washington senior Kristina Kraszewski broke serve in the final game to clinch a 6-1, 6-4 No. 1 singles victory over Oregon's Jeanette Mattson. The victory coincided with the latest ITA national rankings released Friday in which Kraszewki rose from 10th to No. 7 among NCAA singles competitors.
Husky freshman Claire Carter, the nation's 22nd ranked competitor, claimed the No. 2 singles win 6-3, 6-2 over Janice Nyland. Illona Kordonskaya was a 6-4, 7-5 winner over Oregon's Vickie Gunnarsson in the No. 3 spot.
Another UW freshman, Erin Hoe, overcame a first-set tiebreaker loss to post a 6-7(6), 6-4, 6-2 win over Adeline Arnaud in the No. 4 singles match. Sophomore Andrea Coulter won No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-2 over Davina Mendiburu and junior Erin Boisclair was a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 victor at the No. 6 spot.
The Ducks has some success in doubles competition, winning two of three matches. The UW tandem of Carter and Kordonskaya claimed the No. 1 doubles title 8-3. Oregon's Mendiburu and Nyland won 9-7 over Kraszewski and Colleen Gray in No. 2 doubles while Arnaud and Mattsson beat UW's No. 3 duo of Coulter and Hoe 8-4.
The Huskies return to action on Saturday, March 17 against third-ranked Duke. The match begins at noon on the outdoor courts at Bill Quillian Stadium.
