HEAD COACH June Daugherty
On the second half 14-point run by USC: "We called two timeouts during the run and we just felt like we stepped down with our intensity. They just seemed like they were hitting every shot and they had the answer. I don't fault our effort tonight at all, I thought that we played hard. This is a tough run; this is our fifth game in 11 days. I think this is their fourth game in 11 days. I thought our kids tried to gut it out but they just didn't have it. The big thing to me was the free throws. We just did not hit. We had a lot of opportunities to get back into it late in the game but you have to be able to hit some shots, especially from the line."
On having only one practice to prepare for the game: "I don't want to make excuses because I think USC came in here and played a very good game. I thought we did a pretty decent job on their interior players. Number 11 was on a roll but we did a better job on her in the second half. Their point guard was lights out from the free throw line; she was shooting 60 percent coming in but she went eight-for-eight in the game."
On the injury status of Cheri Craddock: "Cheri sprained her ankle in practice yesterday and she was unable to go today."
GUARD Kayla Burt
On the team's fatigue: "I don't think it was a factor. I think we played hard. Obviously we were out there working hard so we needed to sub. I don't think fatigue was a factor, I just think that during times that there were lapses we weren't getting our box-outs and just down the stretch we just weren't clutch."
On her ankle injury: "Once the game started I didn't even think about it at all. It was a little sore earlier today, but the trainer taped it up real well and I got my treatments so I didn't even feel it when I was out on the court."
FORWARD Breanne Watson
On USC's rebounding: "They have some athletic girls and when you miss a box-out you let one of those girls get in there and they will get the easy basket. Rebounding was just a big factor tonight."
