Washington's Cameo Hicks scored just five seconds into the game, and notched seven of UW's first 10 points overall. The sophomore finished the first half with 11 points and nine rebounds, both greater than her season per-game averages of 8.7 and 4.5, respectively.
Washington's 48 first-half points were a season-high, while its 48-28 lead at the break was its largest halftime advantage since holding a 47-17 halftime edge in a 95-50 win over Oregon on Jan. 15, 2004 in Seattle. That game also marked the last time the Huskies defeated an opponent by at least 31 points.
Thursday's win gave the Huskies a season sweep of Oregon State for the first time since the 2001 season. Washington leads the series 41-24 all-time, including a 22-9 edge in games played in Seattle. The 84-53 win was the largest for either team in the series since a 94-61 UW win in Seattle on Jan. 20, 1994.
Counting the Huskies' 44-point output in the second half of its 73-68 loss at USC on Saturday, and its 48 first-half points tonight, Washington scored a total of 92 points in the two consecutive halves.
Nine different players scored for UW in the first half, including eight with three points or more. In total, 12 players scored for Washington in the contest, with eight notching at least six points.
Husky sophomore Breanne Watson scored 13 points off the bench for Washington for the second-straight game, including a 13-point reserve outing in Saturday's loss at USC. The two figures are season-highs for Watson.
Freshman Jackie Hollands scored her first-career points on a three late in the second half, before hitting two more threes in the Huskies' next three possessions. Prior to tonight's game, Hollands had played just two minutes, and attempted just one shot.
Washington held Oregon State's Shannon Howell, the Pac-10's leading scorer at 18.1 points per game, to just 10 points on 3-of-14 shooting.
After opening the season with a 6-11 record, Washington is 4-3 in its last seven games.
Saturday is National Girls & Women in Sports Day. All girls in attendance are encouraged to wear a sports uniform and participate in a halftime presentation. Pre-game activities include an autograph session with female UW athletes, face painting and sign making. National Girls & Women in Sports Day was chartered by Congress in 1986 to honor female athletic achievement and recognize the importance of sports and fitness participation for all girls and women.
UW will also hold a private auction Saturday at the North Court of the Pavilion Addition at Bank of America Arena. Bidding begins at 11:30 a.m. and ends at the culmination of halftime. Items up for bid include a private jet trip to a Husky event in 2005, a travel package with the UW women's basketball team for a trip to Italy in 2006, and golf with athletic director Todd Turner.
