WASHINGTON HEAD COACH June Daugherty
General Comments: "That was fun. The big thing that we talked about was let's build on Thursday night. Build on the intensity and go out and play harder than we did last time out. These guys responded and it was a heck of a lot of fun. Rebounding, our defensive, and our match-ups, we really did some great things tonight and that allowed us to get into our running game and I think that all 5,200 loved to see us run tonight. Its a great back to back series for us."
On the physical plays during the game: "Well, they are a good team and they're big. Big and strong they've got a lot of seniors. They are older kids so you expect that. That's just basketball, but we are not going to back down. We are going to play Husky basketball. That is what we are there to accomplish."
On turnovers and rebounds: "I think that when Kayla [Burt] went down, that was tough. It was tough for everyone in the stand, for the coaching staff, and especially for [the team]. She is a super leader for this program. Everyone admires her for what she is doing. I think that it fired us up even more to play with Kayla not being able to go. Her nose is broken. I think that they kind of reset it. She couldn't go today, but hopefully we can get her ready for the Arizona's. I think that the team responded really well, I think that they responded the right way, by just playing harder for a teammate that couldn't go."
On Oregon's Kraayeveld sitting out the game: "We would have liked to play Oregon with her there but it wasn't meant to be. It didn't change anything that we were going to do. We knew early that she was out of the game and we met as a staff but it didn't change at all what we were going to accomplish."
On making rotations in the game: "We've settled into a really confident level with our starters and we are trying to let them go longer if they are playing at that high level. You don't want them to get leg-weary, but right now we are trying to go with our core seven-or-eight person lineup as long as we can."
On the team improvements: "I am thrilled for them because they have worked hard and are a group of kids that have shown great character. Never once have they put their heads down and it has always been about what we need to do to improve. Everyday they come with that kind of attitude. They played the toughest pre-season in the conference, and they understood that we had to do that to learn a lot with how young and inexperienced we are. It is starting to really pay off for them now in the Pac-10. We just need to keep building and taking one game at a time. You have to go with whatever it is going to take to get it done and people are willing to accept that."
GUARD Cameo Hicks
On creating early steals: "It's all about anticipation. Everyone was doing a great job with that. It's just about getting after it on defense. We really committed to working hard on defense and mixing it up down low so that's what we were trying to do."
On her back-to-back strong games: "The individual stuff isn't really important, it's all about the team. I think just the team as a whole did a great job this weekend. We really put two good games together."
GUARD Dominique Banks
On Oregon rivalry: "Other people on the team get really riled up against them so I go off of that emotion. I just try to mix it up. Get the ball in, take it out, whatever's open I just try to work with that."
