Washington Women's Basketball Game Notes Basketball Travelers Husky Classic November 25, 2006
The Huskies' 96-69 win over Saint Louis in the first round of the Basketball Travelers Husky Classic puts them in the championship game for the 20th time in the 20-year history of the tournament. Washington improved its all-time record in the Husky Classic to 32-7, 20-0 in the first round.
Washington will face Northern Iowa in the championship game, Sunday, at 3 p.m. Northern Iowa (1-3) defeated Miami (2-3), 73-66, in overtime, in the earlier first round game. Forward Tara King led four Panthers in double figure scoring with a game-high 23 points. UNI outscored Miami 9-2 in overtime.
Saint Louis will face Miami in the consolation game, Sunday, at 12:30 p.m.
Senior guard Cameo Hicks became the 20th player in Washington women's basketball history to reach the 1,000 point career scoring plateau, Saturday. Hicks' 21 points versus Saint Louis gives her 1005 career points.
With 21 points today, Hicks recorded her second-straight 20-point scoring game and fourth-straight double-figure scoring game. Hicks also set career highs with (11) free throws made, and (13) free throws attempted.
Junior center Andrea Plouffe set a career-high with 23 points versus Saint Louis, eclipsing her previous career high of 19 set at Oregon State (1/19/06). It was her second straight double-figure scoring game after scoring 16 versus Purdue, Nov. 17 (she missed UW's last game versus Eastern Washington, Nov. 21.) Plouffe's 23 points was the most scored by a Husky in a single-game this season.
Washington improved its record in home openers to 27-6 overall. UW has won its last six-straight home openers.
Washington's 96 points scored versus Saint Louis and its 44% FG shooting percentage is a season-high.
Maggie O'Hara's (10) points versus Saint Louis sets a career-high, eclipsing her previous high of nine recorded twice, the last versus USC (2/5/05)
UW redshirt sophomore guard Stefanie Clark made her first career start versus Saint Louis.
