Washington's win over UCLA tonight extends its current winning streak to eight games. Since starting the season 0-2, Washington has won 11 of its last 13 games, including its last eight-straight. The equals UW's longest winning streak since the 2002-03 season, when the Huskies won eight straight from Nov. 29-Dec. 28.
Jill Bell scored 6 of the Huskies first 8 points and ended with 12, increasing her total to 5 games with 10 plus points. She also tied her season high with a total of 4 assists - all coming in the first half.
Washington outscored the Bruins 40-26 in the paint thanks in part to grabbing 23 offensive rebounds, just 3 shy of their season-high 26 set against USC on Dec. 29th. Washington entered the game leading the Pac-10 in offensive rebounds at 18.5/game
Washington out-rebounded UCLA 43-36 and improves to 9-2 when grabbing more rebounds than their opponent. The Huskies have out-rebounded their opponents in all but four of their fifteen games this season.
With the win, Washington improved to 4-0 in Pac-10 play for the first time since the 1991-92 season. Washington has opened 4-0 on two other occasions since joining the Pac-10 in 1987, including an 8-0 start to Pac-10 play in 1987-88.
The win improved Washington's home record to 8-0 this season, and was their 11th straight home victory, dating back to last season. UW's last loss at home was to then 19th ranked ASU, 67-62, on Jan. 28.
Cameo Hicks finished with 22 points, making this her 10th straight double-figure scoring games and 14th overall. Hicks has scored at least 17 points in the last seven-straight games, and has scored 20 points or more in five games this season.
Hicks is now 15th on the all-time UW career scoring list with 1,216 points scored. She passed Renee Avelino (1982-85) who had scored 1,194 (11.4 ppg) in her career.
