
Huskies Advance in Regional Consolation Draw

STANFORD, Calif. - A pair of Husky freshmen progressed into the Round of 16 in the consolation singles draw Saturday at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships at the Taube Tennis Center.
Venise Chan picked up her first two collegiate wins, routing both her opponents on Saturday. Chan defeated Courtney Hull of Santa Clara, 6-1, 6-2 in the Round of 64, then surrendered only one game against Nevada's Audrey Bardot, taking a 6-1, 6-0 win.
Fellow freshman Ashley Anderson had a bye in the first round, then pulled out a third-set tiebreak in her Round of 32 match against Jessica Gomez of Washington State. Anderson came back after losing the first set, 5-7, to win 6-2 and 10-8 in the tiebreak.
Sophomore Lauren Summers also picked up her first career singles win, knocking off Jessica Harris of UC Davis, 6-2, 6-2 in the Round of 64. Summers also took the first set in her next match but then dropped the final two. Freshman Aleksandra Krsljanin also had her tournament come to an end in the Round of 64, losing 6-2, 6-1 to Alexandra Poorta of St. Mary's.
Play continues through Monday at the Taube Tennis Center on Stanford's campus.
