Three Huskies Advance at SDSU Fall Classic

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Junior Melinda Wong reached the final of her singles flight, and co-captains Tara Simpson and Joyce Ardies made the doubles final of the top flight in the second day of action at the SDSU Fall Classic #2 at the Aztec Tennis Center.
Wong will vie for the Flight 4 singles title on Sunday against Olivia Colman of host-school San Diego State. In the semis, Wong defeated Justine Perl of the University of San Diego, 6-1, 6-3.
As for Simpson and Ardies, the two will face the SDSU pair of Bagshaw and Krausova in the Flight 1 doubles final, after defeating a San Diego pair today. Simpson and Ardies took out the duo of Mouly and Lindstrom, 8-3, for their second win in as many days.
Also picking up a win for the Huskies was Aleksandra Malovic in the Flight 2 back draw. Malovic, a sophomore, downed San Diego State's Sisse Nielsen, 7-5, 6-3.
Two Huskies lost their semifinal matches on Saturday. In Flight 1, freshman Venise Chan took the first set from Holly Bagshaw, 6-4, but the Aztec turned the momentum in the next two sets, winning 6-3, 6-1. Simpson, in Flight 3, struggled to a 6-0, 6-2 loss to Rebecca Kwan of UC Irvine.
The tournament will wrap up tomorrow, where after the Huskies will return to Seattle to make their 2007-08 home debut at the Husky Invitational, Nov. 9-11.
