Baton Rouge, La. - The Huskies continued to hit their mark during competition, as the GymDawgs finished the night with a season-high score in a 196.550-195.175 loss to fifth-ranked Louisiana State at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Washington picked up a team win over Tigers on beam, 48.750-48.400, as four different Huskies placed in the top-three on the individual events.
"The girls did so well," said head coach Joanne Bowers after the meet. "There were so many positives tonight. We had all sorts of problem getting here yesterday with our flight from Dallas getting cancelled - we were running through airports and some of the team didn't even get their bags until an hour before we left for the meet. But no one complained about anything. And we got here and took care of business."
UW has stepped up in each of their meetings against the nation's top teams. Although the Huskies fell to 1-10 tonight, all of Washington's losses were from top-25 teams, including four from top-10 opponents. Although the squad has picked up losses, four of its top-five scores came against top-10 teams, including tonight's season-high 195.175.
The Huskies picked up a team victory on beam, outscoring the Tigers 48.750-48.400, as freshmen Samantha Walior (Prior Lake, Minn.) and Haley Bogart (Woodside, Calif.) tied for third place with a 9.8.
Washington also earned top performances from junior Ashley Houghting (Welland, Ont.), who took second on vault with a 9.95 and senior Nikki Waiss (Mill Creek, Wash.), who placed second on bars with a season-high 9.875. Houghting also scored a victory in the all-around, finishing with a season-high 39.225.
"It was really nice to be able to replace our 191 in our RQS," added Bowers. "This was a big meet for us. There were 3300 people there and LSU is a very good team. But we didn't get intimidated and we took care of business."
Next week, the Huskies will host Seattle Pacific in the final regular season home meet. The Huskies and the Falcons will face off at 7 p.m. in Bank of America Arena on Friday, March 14.
