
No. 13 Huskies Upset On The Road

TEMPE, Ariz. - The No. 13 UW gymnastics team was upset in Tempe, Ariz., by Arizona State in a Pac-10 dual meet on Friday night, 195.750-195.450.
"This was not a bad away score for us," said head coach Joanne Bowers. "We did awesome as a team on vault and beam and Ruby did awesome in the all-around. When I see the potential on this team I want to see us getting better at that. We need to keep pushing and keep trying to get better."
Freshman Aliza Vaccher (Eugene, Ore.) posted a career-high 9.875 on bars and tied for a team-high with junior Ruby Engreitz (Kirkland, Wash.) for first on the event. It is the fourth bars title of the year for Engreitz and first for Vaccher. UW scored a 48.675 on the bars, their first event of the night.
For the third time this year the Huskies posted a 49.000 on the vault with a 49.300, a season-high on the event. Junior Amanda Cline (Aurora, Colo.) scored a career-high to win the event with a 9.925. It is the third vault title of the year for Cline.
Engreitz (9.900) and sophomore Megan Whitney (Mesa, Ariz.) with a 9.875, also scored career-highs on the event. Sophomore Lauren Rogers (Plains, Pa.) tied a season-high with a 9.850.
The Huskies trailed after the first rotation but took the lead after the second, 97.975-97.825.
With a 48.975 on the floor, the Huskies remained in the lead after three rotations. Three Huskies posted season-high's, led by senior Samantha Walior (Prior Lake, Minn.) and Rogers with 9.825's. Engreitz posted a 9.800.
Sophomore Paige Bixler (Rowlett, Texas) led off the fourth rotation for UW on the beam with a season-high 9.825 to win the event. Engreitz tied a career-high with a 9.775. Freshman Lara Albright (Carrollton, Texas) competed on the beam for the first time in her collegiate career and posted a 9.500.
Engreitz won the all-around with a career-high 39.350 and Vaccher finished third in the all-around with a career-high score of 38.925.
On Feb. 25 the Huskies will compete at Oregon State with San Jose State and UC Davis.
