Opening Statement
Let's give credit where credit is due. Arizona played a heck of a game. They played a really good defensive team and they scored about 50% from everywhere, and then got about 84% from the free throw line, so they were not missing very many baskets. We got them taking about the amount of shots we wanted them to take but they just weren't missing any. They played a heck of a game.
On what she said to her team towards the end of the game
Towards the end of the game, I just remember saying we needed stops on this end and rebounds and we've got to be attacking on this end. That was really the message. It wasn't rocket science. We're running the high screen on ball, we're looking to turn the corner and that's where we were having success so we wanted to keep going to it.
On coaching senior Sarah Morton
It's been an absolute joy. I just remember watching her grow from a young lady to now a young adult and a young woman, both on and off the floor. It's been a special relationship that's been built. It's going to be hard when that final day does come but, for now, we've still got her.
On how Arizona was able to hold her back
They were just being physical and trying to get in my head a little bit when I was on the baseline, talking to me or face-guarding me or whatever but it's not really anything new. I think that, at that point, we just realized that we just had to get the ball inside if we were going to get anything easy. I wasn't able to knock down the first few open shots but our posts were so we just went inside to them.
On the strength and resilience of the team
We feel like, regardless of how our record shows, we know the true character of this team. We know how hard we work day in and day out. This is my first year where there is just a bond. It just feels right and it feels like, every time we go out, we're going to win. It's special. Losing and having to explain why we lost is no fun but we're not going to give up. We fight hard for each other and we're pretty strong together. We have to move on and I think we still have great things ahead of us.
On how the players "set the bar" for the team
The players set the bar. I feel like a lot of us upperclassmen help the freshmen. I know I'm constantly talking to Marjorie [Heard]. I feel like I've gotten better physically, getting into shape. I know I still have a long way to go but I feel like I've gotten better in this program.
