SEATTLE - In its first game played in Seattle in 2011, the No. 23 UW men's soccer team ended in a scoreless draw after 110 minutes at Seattle University Sunday afternoon. UW is now 2-0-2 on the year while SU is 1-1-2.
The Huskies had numerous chances on goal, outshooting SU 16-11. Senior Brent Richards (Camas, Wash.) took five total shots and one of the four Husky shots on goal. UW took 12 corner kicks to just five for the Redhawks.
Junior Quinton Beasley (Camas, Wash.) took the first shot of the game just a couple of minutes in. He had two shots in the game.
The first great opportunity came in the eighth minute on a flip thrown-in into the box by sophomore Michael Harris (Shoreline, Wash.) to junior Alex Klein (Seattle, Wash.) who got a foot on it but it was saved by SU's keeper, Jake Feener.
The first shot taken by SU came in the 36th minute about 25 yards out. Husky goalkeeper Spencer Richey (Seattle, Wash.) made four saves in the game, a season-high.
With just over five minutes left in regulation, Richards had a great header on the left side from a pass by Casey McCool (Bend, Ore.) but it was another great save by Feener.
Richards would have two more headers with three minutes to play and has time expired, both missed just high.
Junior Ben Fisk (Federal Way, Wash.) had probably the best attempt in the game. Halfway through the first OT he took a shot about 25 yards out that hit the right post. The ball rolled back towards the goal line but was then saved by the keeper.
UW will head to the SMU tournament next weekend, facing Tulsa and SMU.
Prior to the start of the game, Seattle U brought in a huge flag to the field, a color guard and had a nice ceremony to honor those who were victims of 9/11.
