SEATTLE - The 2013 National Collegiate Women's Gymnastics Championships regional selections were announced today by the NCAA and for the second time in three years the GymDawgs will be heading to Norman, Okla.
Washington will be the No. 4 seed in the region behind the host Sooners, Stanford and Penn State. Iowa is the five-seed followed by Southern Utah.
"I'm really excited for our team to go back to Oklahoma," said head coach Joanne Bowers. "I was really hoping this is where we would go. We have been to Oregon State twice in the last three weeks and while we love competing there, we think this is a good draw for us in Oklahoma."
The Norman Regional will be held April 6 at 2 p.m. PT.
Oklahoma is No. 2 in the country, Stanford is No. 11, Penn State comes in at No. 14 and Washington at No. 22, respectively, after last weekend's conference championships.
The Huskies competed at the Norman Regional in 2011 finishing third, just barely missing out on a berth to NCAA Nationals. The top two teams from each regional advance to nationals at UCLA.
Last season, the Huskies hosted regionals in Seattle and also just missed out on second place.
All eight Pac-12 teams made NCAA Regionals. Oregon State will host and Arizona State and Cal will travel back to Corvallis. UCLA and Arizona will compete in the Columbus, Ohio Regional and Utah will head to Alabama.
Six teams, five all-around competitors (who are not on a qualifying team) and one individual event specialist per event [who has a minimum Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) of 9.4] were named to each of the six predetermined host sites.
The top-18 teams are seeded nationally, based on RQS. Teams 19-36 are organized into three pods (19-24, 25-30 and 31-36) and placed geographically at one of the six sites, beginning with teams 19-24 followed by teams 25-30 and then finally teams 31-36. All-around competitors and event specialists are assigned to their respective geographic region or the designated site for their region (North Central - Columbus regional; and Northeast - Morgantown regional).
All regionals will be conducted Saturday, April 6, with start times of either 4 or 6 p.m. local time.
