SEATTLE - Senior Lauren Rogers will head to a familiar site this weekend, Pauley Pavilion at UCLA, for the 2013 NCAA National Championships. She will be the lone GymDawgs representative after tying for second at the Norman Regional and earning a berth in the all-around.
Rogers will compete in semifinal No. 2 on Friday at 6 p.m. and rotate with Alabama. They will begin with a bye before bars. Semifinal No. 1 is at noon.
The Plains, Pa., native will be the seventh individual to compete at nationals under head coach Joanne Bowers and makes it four-straight years that the UW has sent someone to the meet.
Her 39.375 at the Norman Regionals was the best by a Husky at that meet since 2003. She tied for second overall, earning the automatic berth as an individual qualifier.
Rogers continued to break her career-high in the AA all season and had a high score of 39.425 at the Pac-12 Championships. She also set career-highs on bars, beam and floor throughout the year.
The all-around winner will be announced at the end of the second semifinal. The top eight competitors on each event from the combined sessions will advance to the individual event finals on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Super Six team finals are Saturday at 4 p.m.
