Charitable Donations are made by the UW Athletic Department for fund raising events, incentives, or door prizes at events by non-profit agencies. Please consult the following policies and procedures before making requests.
Policies:
1. The NCAA prohibits donations that benefit high schools, colleges or universities.
2. Multiple requests by the same organization, to varying departments within the UW Athletic Department, are all funneled back to the charitable donation office and only one of these requests will be granted. This is to assure that we are able to serve our ever-expanding group of applicants.
3. Due to the number of requests received, donations are generally confined to organizations within the Puget Sound area.
4. Donations vary according to what is available at the time of the request. Typically they include Husky logo sports apparel, autographed balls, and pairs of tickets to football, men's and women's basketball games. Specific donation requests will be noted, but not necessarily promised.
5. Most donations will be mailed directly to the organization's requesting individual. In the case of tickets, this individual will receive them and be responsible for distributing them to the auction winner. Recipients may sometimes be asked to pick up bulky items.
6. Organizations will receive items of approximately the same monetary value. This value will be stated in the accompanying letter.
7. Donations will be granted on not more than a yearly basis.
8. Businesses, organizations advocating a political agenda, or organizations such as a Chambers of Commerce, which raise funds to benefit business, do not qualify for receiving donations.
9. Requests made many months prior to the event, will be responded to closer to the event date.
Procedures:
1. Charitable organizations are asked to make their request in writing, on organization stationery.
2. Requests must be provided at least three (3) weeks prior to the event.
3. Request must include:
- Name & address of organization requesting item(s)
- Telephone number
- Type of event they are sponsoring (i.e. auction, raffle, etc.)
- Event Date
- List the age range of the recipient.
- List the type of person who will benefit from proceeds.
