GymDawgs Impress At Purple & Gold Meet

SEATTLE – UW gymnastics hosted its annual intrasquad Purple & Gold Meet Monday night in Alaska Airlines Arena to kick off its 2015 season. The squad was divided into two, with the Purple team winning the meet.
“This was probably the most prepared we've ever been for the intrasquad meet,“ head coach Joanne Bowers said. “I was proud of how the team competed. I knew we'd have a lot of good things happen and I knew we'd have some things to work on. It was very encouraging what we saw regarding our potential.”
This was the first opportunity for the GymDawgs to land on hard surfaces and compete under the bright lights in their main arena. The Huskies' depth was on display in several events, led by Allison Northey who won the all-around title with a total score of 38.950. Northey posted the top score on the bars and second-best mark on the vault.
Alexandra Yacalis also stood out for UW, taking second in the all-around while recording the top mark on beam and second-best on the vault.
Freshman Hailey Burleson played a big role, as she won the vault and placed second on floor. Her all-around score of 38.500 was tied for third overall and best among a strong group of freshman.
Freshman Zoey Schaefer posted the highest score on floor. Madison Podlucky finished in the top-three on both the bars and floor. Janae Janik tied with Yacalis for top mark on beam.
The Huskies will officially begin their season at home against Kentucky on Monday, Jan. 12 at 6 p.m. PT in Alaska Airlines Arena. The meet will be broadcast live on the Pac-12 Network.
