The 2015 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District ™ Football Teams have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance on the field and in the classroom and Washington defensive back Sidney Jones was named to the District VIII Team.
Jones, a sophomore from Diamond Bar, Calif., has a 3.46 grade point average in pre-health sciences. He now advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot from which first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
On the field, Jones has started all eight games at cornerback for the Huskies. He is tied with teammate Travis Feeney for the Pac-12 lead with three forced fumbles and also has two interceptions. Jones has recorded 30 tackles on the season, including two tackles for loss, and is tied for the team lead with five pass breakups.
It marks the second-consecutive year that the Huskies have placed at least one player on the CoSIDA All-Academic Team after last having had a representative on the team in 2001. Danny Shelton (first team) and Hau'oli Kikaha (District VIII) were recognized for their academic achievements in 2014.
