Northey's Career Night Leads GymDawgs Against Utah
February 14, 2015 | Gymnastics
SEATTLE – Allison Northey posted a career-high all-around score to lead UW gymnastics as the GymDawgs hosted No. 3 Utah on Valentine's Day.
“Allie was on fire again tonight,” head coach Joanne Bowers said. “She was such a good inspiration as a junior all-arounder. We have all these young gymnasts that train and have the goal of competing all-around, and watching her in practice every day, the way she trains and gets everything done, and to be able to come out here and do it when it counts is great for our team.”
Northey matched personal bests with 9.9s on both uneven bars and balance beam. She was the top scorer in each of the four events for the Huskies and finished in the top three on vault, bars and beam. Her 39.475 earned her the all-around title. Utah's Georgia Dabritz, the No. 1 all-arounder in the country coming into the meet, took second.
The Huskies dipped into their depth and showcased their young talent due to a few recent setbacks, and in each case the young GymDawgs delivered.
“We had some gymnastis getting their first opportunity and it was nice to have people step up,” Bowers said. “I was proud of the way they competed and this gives us a lot of encouragement for our future.”
On vault, Hailey Burleson continued her success as she posted a 9.825. Northey's 9.875 was good enough for a third-place finish.
Kaitlyn Duranczyk's personal best 9. 8 on bars was a highlight for the Huskies in the event. Northey's 9.9 won the event, her fourth bars title of the season, as the GymDawgs scored a 49.000 for their highest event score of the meet.
Jackie McCartin posted a 9.85 on beam, her second-best score of the season to take fourth place. Northey won her first beam title of the season to continue her standout meet.
Stephanie Stowe made her collegiate debut on floor stuck her routine to earn a 9.8. Northey concluded her night with a 9.8 as well to tie Northey for the highest score by a UW gymnast in the event.
The Huskies' overall score of 195.650 was their third-best of the season.
Utah ended the meet with a team score of 197.025 to remain undefeated in 2015. It was the Utes' third best score of the year.
The GymDawgs will remain at home for another week, hosting Cal and Seattle Pacific in a tri-meet on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. PT. The meet will be streamed live online. Follow the GymDawgs on Instagram and Twitter at @UWGymnastics.
