
Senior Duo Advances to Semifinals at Pac-12 Championships

OJAI, Calif. – University of Washington women's tennis seniors Capucine Gregoire and Riko Shimizu knocked off the top seed to advance to the semifinals of the doubles invitational bracket Friday afternoon at the 2015 Pac-12 Championships.
The senior duo defeated No. 1 seed Lynn Chi and Karla Popovic from California in a close 8-6 decision and will now face Alexandra Aiello and Nuria Ormeno Ruiz of Colorado to battle for a spot in the finals. Earlier in the day, the pair quickly handled Utah's Alexia Petrovic and Victoria Robertson 8-0 to advance to the quarters.
Gregoire and Shimizu now boast a 3-2 record and have won their last three matches. Also competing in doubles action Friday was Elianne Douglas-Miron and Julija Lukac, who were playing together for the first time this season. They faced three-seed Maegan Manasse and Denise Starr of Cal in the championship bracket and fell 8-3.
Doubles play for UW begins at 9 a.m. Saturday morning at the Ojai Valley Athletic Club.
