
Four GymDawgs Earn Academic Honors

SEATTLE — Four Washington gymnasts were named to the NACGC/W Scholastic All-America Awards for 2015. With an overall team GPA of 3.3188, the Huskies were well represented among 74 institutions by McKenzie Fechter, Alyssa Shermetaro, Kaitlyn Durancyzk, and Jaclyn McCartin all earning individual honors.
Fechter finished 2015 with a 3.90 GPA and graduated with a degree in communications. The senior captain was awarded the academic honor, Creating Winners in the Classroom Award as well as the Creating Winners In Life Award, the Captain's Award and Top Dawg of the Year at the annual team awards banquet.
Finishing her freshman year in pre-major studies, Shermetaro earned a 3.66 GPA while Durancyzk wrapped up her sophomore year with a 3.65 GPA in Early Childhood and Family Studies. Jaclyn McCartin graduated with a degree in Comparative History of Ideas and finished 2015 with a 3.51 GPA.
To qualify for the NACGC/W Scholastic All-America Awards, student athletes must earn a GPA of 3.50 or above. Washington finished 41st in overall team GPA out of 74 institutions.
