GymDawgs Post Season Highs On Bars, Beam At Denver
January 24, 2016 | Gymnastics
DENVER – UW gymnastics posted event season-high scores on bars and beam and finished with a 194.300 against Denver, led by senior captain Allison Northey's first-place finish on beam and two additional top-3 finishes.
"We came in on a high after having improved from our first meet with the goal to keep improving, and I think we did that," head coach Joanne Bowers said. "Bars and beam were much better, but we really did not do a good job on floor, so we challenged the team to finish strong. We had our best beam score of the season. Seeing the character of how we finished was fantastic, but we've got to put four events together. We haven't done that yet and we're still looking for that."
Denver finished with a 195.650 to take first place overall, led by Nina McGee's 39.500 performance in the all-around. Northey took second with a 38.175 and sophomore Hailey Burleson finished with a 38.900 to take third, a new personal best.
“This was a good meet, but we still haven't reached our full potential,” Burleson said. “We showed a lot of resilience in this meet. Our beam lineup was really solid, probably our best of the season. We need to take that same mentality into all of our events. I'm excited to see what we can do when we put an entire meet together.”
