GymDawgs Set To Host Annual Purple & Gold Meet
December 01, 2016 | Gymnastics
SEATTLE – UW gymnastics will hold its annual Intrasquad Purple & Gold Meet this Monday, Dec. 5 at Alaska Airlines Arena. The event begins at 11 a.m. PT and admission in free.
"Our Purple and Gold Intrasquad is a great first step into our 2017 season," said head coach Elise Ray. "We all look forward to this event because it signifies the beginning. It's an excellent way for the girls to see where they are both physically and mentally, when they're in front of judges and on the competition floor."
The Purple & Gold Meet will be the first chance for fans to see the 2017 UW gymnastics team, including the freshman class of 2017, the five newest GymDawgs. The meet will also show off alterations and improvements in the GymDawgs' routines, including brand new floor routines with new music.
"It's an opportunity for our amazing fans to see our whole team compete; most gymnasts will be competing every event," said Ray. "Once the season begins, we can only choose 6 girls per event, but in this intrasquad, we let everyone compete every event they're prepared for. It's really a showcase of our incredible talent."
This year's Purple & Gold Meet gives the opportunity for over 500 elementary school students to get a chance to see the GymDawgs in action. Schools from the area will be taking a field trip to the UW as a chance for inspiring gymnasts to see a live college gymnastics meet.
Following the meet, the GymDawgs will be giving away and signing posters, and will be available to meet and greet all those in attendance. Fans can also sign up to be a part of the 10.0 Booster Club during the meet and greet.
The GymDawgs will open up their regular season on Saturday, Jan. 14 in Columbus, Ohio against Ohio State and Michigan in a tri-meet.
