April 15, 2016 | Gymnastics
SEATTLE – Washington's Allison Northey will end her collegiate career this Friday, April 15, by making her first appearance at the NCAA Championships in Fort Worth, Texas. Northey will compete as an all-arounder in Friday's first session, beginning at 1 p.m. CT, 11 a.m. PT.
Northey, a three-time All-Pac-12 First Team honoree in the all-around, qualified for the NCAA Championship meet by finishing in the top-2 all-around gymnasts of those whose teams didn't qualify at the GymDawgs' NCAA Regional meet in Salt Lake City on April 2. She took fourth overall.
“We're super excited that Allie qualified for the National meet and gets to represent UW,” UW head coach Joanne Bowers said. “We're not surprised, she's been one of the nation's top all-arounders all season. This has been one of her goals so we are really excited for her. To have the UW represented on the national stage is good for our program. Our goal is to get the team here and we made great strides this season, but this is the next best thing.”
The GymDawgs will send an individual to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2013. UW has sent 29 gymnasts total as individual competitors. The GymDawgs have advanced as a team to the NCAA Championships five times.
