Meet The Husky Freshmen: Missy Peterson
October 12, 2017 | Women's Basketball
The University of Washington women's basketball program welcomed five freshmen in 2017-18 who will look to contribute in their rookie debuts. GoHuskies.com will introduce a member of the Husky freshmen class leading up to the season.
Missy Peterson is a 5-11 guard from Edmonds, who has terrific court vision and passing ability and will make other around her better. Peterson was a four-year letterwinner at Edmonds-Woodway High School, earning All-Wesco honors all four seasons in uniform. She was named a first-team All-Wesco selection as a senior after averaging 16.6 points, 7.4 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game before her season ended early due to injury. As a junior, Peterson averaged 15.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game as a junior, helping the Warriors to the 2016 Class 3A state quarterfinals.
Q: What are you most looking forward to heading into your freshman season?
A: I am most looking forward to the competition of the PAC 12 and being able to play at this level with my teammates
Q: How would you describe your game?
A: I would describe my game as a pass first guard. I look to find the open player before I find the open shot
Q: Where is your favorite place to hang out in Seattle?
A: Definitely the pike place market or the Seattle waterfront!
Q: Why did you choose the number you wear?
A: Most people think it's weird that I wear 44 as a guard (it's really not THAT weird), but I wear this number because it's what I wore all 4 years in high school and I wanted to keep it since most people from my home know me as 44. And no, I'm not a linebacker.
Q: What is one random fact that people wouldn't know about you?
A: My real name is Sydney and my teammates call me Misty
Q: What are your goals for the upcoming season?
A: I want to be able to play in every game and make the Pac-12 All-Freshman team
Q: What is the best moment of your basketball career so far?
A: Going to state which was played in the Tacoma Dome
Q: What are your hobbies outside of sports?
A: I like to sing and dance for my team
Q: What is your dream job (not including playing basketball)?
A: I want to be an event planner for a college or professional sports team!
Q: What are some of your earliest memories of playing basketball?
A: When I hit my first half court shot in 3rd grade or when my dad was my coach for 3 years... don't ask
