Bears Hold Off Huskies In Berkeley
April 14, 2017 | Beach Volleyball
BERKELEY, Calif. – Despite a dominant win from their momentum-building No. 1 duo of Crissy Jones and Tia Scambray, the Husky beach volleyball team lost a 4-1 decision on the road today against the Cal Bears. Cal had a comeback three set win at No. 4 early in the match and rode that momentum in its final home match of the season.
The Huskies dropped to 3-5 on the year while California improved to 11-7. While Cal came out on top, Jones and Scambray ran their record to 6-1 this year at the No. 1 spot, cruising past Jessica Gaffney and Madison Dueck, 21-9, 21-7.
The Bears got the first point with a straight-set win at No. 5 over Anna Crabtree and Lindsay Chalmers. In the No. 4 match, Melanie Wade and Shayne McPherson took the first set against Anderson/Lindahl, 21-17, but the Cal pair came back and won the second set by the same score. Anderson and Lindahl pulled out the third set, 15-11, to put the Bears up 2-0 overall.
Destiny Julye and Carly DeHoog fell in a 21-16, 21-16 match to Bryce Bark and Camille Stepanof at the No. 3 spot to clinch the match for Cal. The Bears also got the win at No. 2 with Cassie Strickland and Courtney Schwan coming up short, 21-12, 21-17 against Grace Campbell and Olivia Rodberg.
Washington will look to bounce back in a Saturday double-header where the Dawgs will travel to Stanford and face Oregon first followed by the Cardinal.
