Vanessa Wong Advances to ITA All-American Qualifying Finals

TULSA, Okla. --- Junior Vanessa Wong won a three-set thriller on Monday to advance to the finals of the Qualifying Round of the ITA All-American Championships at the University of Tulsa.
Wong, the No. 2 seed in the qualifying round, defeated Safiya Carrington of LSU, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 on Monday and can reach the final draw with a win tomorrow when she faces Anastasia Smirnova of host Tulsa at 9:00 am PT.
The doubles qualifying also began on Monday with the Huskies represented by two teams. Senior Natsuho Arakawa and freshman Ashley Chang dropped their first match 8-2, but rebounded with an 8-6 victory over Cancini and Nakla of Iowa State in the consolation bracket.
Wong teamed up with sophomore Nika Zupancic in other doubles competition, losing 8-3 to Hule and Kennedy of TCU and lost 8-4 in their consolation match to Kerr and Wan of Columbia.
