Washington Opens ASU Invite With Solid Showing

TEMPE, Ariz. --- Washington women's tennis opened the 2019 ASU Sun Devil Invitational with a solid showing in doubles play, but struggled in the singles competition on Friday.
The Huskies looked sharp in doubles competition, winning both matches against players from Kansas State. Katarina Kopcalic and Sedona Gallagher pulled out a 7-6 (5) victory over Karine-Marion Job and Ines Mesquita of KSU while Vanessa Wong and Natsuho Arakawa cruised past Margot Decker and Anna Turco 6-1.
On the singles side, Washington matched up with Kansas and Arakawa was the lone Husky to record a victory, beating Julia Deming 6-3, 6-4. Gallagher took Julia Deming to three sets before falling 6-3, 0-6, 6-4.
Washington returns to action on Saturday for day two of the ASU Invite.
