Las Vegas Bowl Soundbites: Media Availability
December 14, 2019 | Football
SEATTLE – Select Washington football offensive and defensive players met with the media Saturday afternoon, Dec. 14, ahead of the Huskies' appearance in the 2019 Mitsubishi Motors Las Vegas Bowl. Read some of what they had to say:
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN LEVI ONWUZURIKE
(On the news about head coach Chris Petersen stepping down) "I think there's a feeling that everybody has when they're ready to be done and ready to move on. I think people should follow that. We all support him. [Jimmy] Lake already knows the system so it's not going to be a big transition for the team. It's great for Coach Petersen and great for Coach Lake."
(On whether there is added motivation to win this bowl game) "There is motivation, 100 percent. We all know the history – [Petersen] has been at Boise State and is here now. We want to win a bowl game and send him out with a win."
OFFENSIVE LINEMAN NICK HARRIS
(On how lucky he feels that he got to play for Petersen) "It's an honor, honestly. I know that sounds cheesy, but in retrospect, he's probably one of the best college football coaches of all time. His stats speak for themselves and the people he's built speak for themselves. The things he teaches and preaches to us and the values he puts into us, just over and over letting us know these things. It goes way beyond football, the impact he's had on so many football players here or wherever he was before. It was an honor and I'm just glad he gave me a chance to come here."
(On whether there is added motivation to win this bowl game) "I think we're taking it as another game we want to win. We need to put on the tape, get a good game plan, have good practices, and go out and execute. Obviously, with the circumstances that we're in, it would be nice to send [Petersen] out like that but we're just approaching it like any other game."
RUNNING BACK SALVON AHMED
(On how he's feeling physically) "Good, body feels good. As a running back, everyone can't always say that. Body feels good."
(On Boise State's defense) "They are a really good team, a really sound team. They have a lot of guys who will be at the ball every single time. We have to go out there and prepare. I think it's going to come down to executing our plan."
DEFENSIVE BACK ELIJAH MOLDEN
(On whether he feels like he improved over the course of the season) "I think so. It just comes down to the way we worked in the offseason with our strength coaches and in spring ball. That's where you set the foundation for the season. No matter where I am in life and after football, I'm always going to focus on continuing to improve."
