Big Second Inning Helps Huskies To 7-5 Win

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico – The #5 Washington Huskies used another big inning to wrap up a win, taking down #25 Mississippi State in their first of two games Thursday night. Washington score six runs in the second inning, their biggest inning since April 7 of last season, en route to a 7-2 win.

Gabbie Plain went the distance for her first win and first complete game of the season. She allowed five runs, all on three home runs by Mia Davidson, and struck out eight. Three times Plain retired the side in order, including twice in a row during a stretch that saw her retire seven straight batters.

Morganne Flores and Emma Helm would each drive in multiple runs. Helm's double in the second drove two runs in, the first two RBI of the season for Helm. Flores would homer in that inning for her second two-run homer in as many games, then drove in a third run on a laser line drive in the sixth.

		SCORING
First Inning: After two strikeouts to start the game, Mississippi State homered down the leftfield line for an early lead. Second Inning: In her first bases-loaded at-bat of the season, Emma Helm stroked a double to left-center, allowing two runs to come across and put the Huskies on top. A third run came across as Amirah Milloy reached on a fielding error. Flores' home run put the final two runs of the inning on the board. Fourth Inning: Mississippi State's Mia Davidson would hit another solo home run in her second at-bat of the day. Sixth Inning: With runners on the corners, Flores smoked a ball off the third baseman, allowing Megan Vandegrift to come home from third and make it 7-2. Seventh Inning: A third home run by Mia Davidson drove three runs in, making it 7-5.

		NOTES
This was Plain's (7.0 IP, 8 K) 30^th career start. It was the 10^th time she's recorded at least eight strikeouts. Bates (0x3) had her streak of three consecutive games with multiple hits snapped. This was the fourth time in her career that Flores (2x4, R, HR, 3 RBI) has homered in back-to-back games. Flores has RBI in four consecutive games now, driving in seven over that time. Helm (1x2, R, 2B, RBI, SB) now has two steals in her career, both of home. Milloy (1x3, R, SB) has reached base 50% of the time in her career when leading off an inning.

The Huskies have two more games tomorrow to finish up the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge. Washington will play the UCF Knights at 4:00 pm PT and the North Dakota State Bison at 6:30 pm PT.
