Huskies Improve To 14-1 With Victory Over Arizona

SEATTLE – The 13th ranked Washington women's tennis team defeated Arizona 5-2 on Friday afternoon at Quillian Tennis Center. With the victory, the Huskies improve to 14-1 on the season and remain unbeaten in Pac-12 play at 4-0.
The Huskies started off the match strong, taking the doubles point and a 1-0 lead.
The 42nd ranked doubles pair of senior Stacey Fung and freshman Nika Zupancic defeated Emma Wilson and Sophia Thomas 6-2. Fung and Zupancic are now 9-2 on the season in dual doubles matches.
The doubles point was clinched on Court 3 when senior Kenadi Hance and freshman Sedona Gallagher took down Marie Van Aelst and Tayla Zandberg 6-2. Hance and Gallagher improved their record in dual doubles matches to 6-1 on the year.
Sophomore Vanessa Wong and freshman Zoey Weil were tied 5-5 with Camilla Wesbrooks and Gitte Heynemans when the doubles point was decided.
Gallagher quickly made it a 2-0 Husky lead as she defeated Heynemans 6-0, 6-1. Gallagher is now 10-2 in singles dual matches in her freshman campaign.
Zupancic was dominant as well, taking down Thomas 6-2, 6-0 on Court 6. Zupancic improved her record in 6-1 in dual matches, playing in the sixth spot in the lineup.
Fung lost to Wilson 2-6, 2-6 on Court 1 as the Wildcats won their first point of the match, making it a 3-1 Washington lead.
Arakawa clinched the fourth point and the match on Court 4, 6-2, 6-4. Arakawa is now 9-2 in singles dual matches.
Wong suffered only her first loss of the dual match season as she fell 6-2, 3-8, 8-10 to Wesbrooks on Court 2, to give the Wildcats their second point of the match.
Junior Katarina Kopcalic defeated Van Aelst, 7-5, 6-1 on Court 4 for the fifth UW point of the day. Kopcalic is now 10-4 in singles dual matches.
The Dawgs will next be in action at home on Sunday, March 31 to face Arizona State at 11 a.m.
