HONOLULU – Washington played a triple header today in Honolulu, going 1-2 in the round robin portion of the Queen's Cup, hosted by Hawaii at Queen's Beach. The Huskies opened with a 5-0 win over San Jose State but then dropped a 5-0 decision to No. 14 Loyola Marymount despite going to third sets on three courts. UW ended the day with a 4-1 loss to sixth-ranked Hawaii.

In the opener against a solid Spartans squad, the Huskies got four straight set wins, and then closed out with a three-set victory at No. 2 from Kara Bajema and Shayne McPherson, who lost the first set, 18-21, to Andrade/Gavio but came back to win the next two, 21-18, 15-13.

The next match was much closer than the final score appeared. Julye and Gengenbacher fell just short at No. 1 to Culo/Nash of LMU, 21-15, 16-21, 15-13. There was another 15-13 third set at No. 5, where Drechsel teamed with Emma Calle and they took the first set, 21-17, and lost a heartbreaker in the second, 20-22.
Another three setter came at No. 3 where McCoy and Niece fell to Kovac/Prichard, 21-17, 15-21, 15-8. Bajema and McPherson also were a couple points away in both sets at No. 2 against Slattery/Toth, falling 21-19, 21-19.
Against the sixth-ranked Rainbow Wahine, Calle and Drechsel moved up to the No. 4 spot and they got a huge win, 21-15, 21-17, over Banz and Loker of Hawaii.
