SEATTLE – On Thursday, Washington head gymnastics coach Jessa Hansen Parker named longtime club coach Gibran Campos as an assistant coach, completing her inaugural coaching staff on Montlake.
Campos brings deep ties to the club gymnastics scene in California, having worked with SCEGA Gymnastics, Airborne Gymnastics and Winners Gymnastics over the last decade-plus.
"I am thrilled to welcome Gibran to our coaching staff," Hansen Parker said. "His exceptional technical expertise and coaching prowess make him the perfect addition to our team. I am excited to collaborate with someone whose dedication and expertise I deeply admire. Gibran's passion for excellence and commitment to enhancing the student-athlete experience will significantly elevate our program."
Since 2020, Campos has been the head coach at SCEGA Gymnastics in Temecula, California. With the club, he was responsible for overseeing the compulsory and optional programs, consisting of over 100 athletes. In addition to coaching duties, Campos was responsible for staff training, yearly reviews, rotation scheduling, parent communication and recruiting coordination.
With SCEGA, Campos coached multiple athletes to national championships and directed a myriad of gymnasts to regional and state championships. SCEGA was named the Southern California Optional Program of the Year in 2023 and 2024 and earned a top-3 finish in every optional level at the Southern California State Championship in 2023.
Campos was also a team coach with SCEGA Gymnastics from 2015-17.
Prior to returning to SCEGA, Campos served as an optional coach for Airborne Gymnastics in Santa Clara, California, from 2017-20. Directing levels 6-elite on vault and beam and assisting levels 6-10 on uneven bars and floor exercise, he coached multiple national qualifies and countless regional and state champions.
With Airborne Gymnastics, Campos coached 2019 USA Junior National Team member Kaliya Lincoln, who went on to sign a national letter of intent with LSU and earn a spot as a non-travelling alternate with the 2024 USA Olympic Team.
Campos got his start in coaching with Winners Gymnastics in Chino, California, serving at the club from 2010-14. With the club, he coached level 4-7 athletes in all four events and assisted with routine composition for athletes level 8-10. Campos also coordinated team camps for the club.
Campos earned a bachelor's degree in media studies and journalism in 2014 from California State University, San Bernardino.
