February 09, 2025 | Women's Basketball
SEATTLE – The Washington women's basketball team (14-10, 5-7 Big Ten) nearly pulled off a second half comeback Sunday afternoon before ultimately falling to No. 16 Maryland, 81-73.
The Huskies narrowed a once 20-point third quarter deficit to just four points by the fourth, outscoring the Terrapins (19-5, 9-4 Big Ten) 22-16 in the final 10 minutes in front of 4,819 fans inside Alaska Airlines Arena.
Elle Ladine led the charge of three Dawgs in double-digit scoring, as the junior notched 23 points (9-for-18) and connected on five three-pointers.
Sayvia Sellers put up 19 points, five assists, and tied a career-high five steals, three of which came in clutch moments in the fourth quarter.
Dalayah Daniels added another double-double, finishing the afternoon with 12 points, 10 rebounds, four blocks, three assists, and three steals.
Daniels moved her way up in the Husky history books, slotting herself into the No. 2 spot on UW's all-time blocked shots list.
With four blocks today, her third game this season with 4+, Daniels passed Liz Chicane (1980-83) for second most blocks in a Washington uniform. She now has 146 blocks at UW and 193 in her career.
Washington put up a strong first quarter offensive surge, jumping out to a 27-19 advantage after one. The Terrapins responded with a 25-point second quarter of their own to take an eight-point halftime lead.
The Dawgs were down by as many as 20 with under three minutes to go in the third quarter. Washington chipped away at a 14-point deficit at the start of the fourth quarter, cutting the Terrapin lead to four and forcing three straight turnovers with just under five-and-a-half minutes to play.
The Huskies registered 16 points off 15 Maryland turnovers while committing just 10 of their own, tied for the second lowest count by the team this season.
Washington will now head down I-5 to face the familiar foe Oregon Ducks on Wednesday, Feb. 12 before returning to Alaska Airlines Arena for back-to-back conference matchups with No. 7 USC and Rutgers.
