Washington Puts Up Good Fight Against No. 4 Ohio State

SEATTLE - Washington fell to No. 4 Ohio State today in their second home match of the weekend.Β

The Huskies started out strong in doubles, taking early leads but Ohio State proved tough competitors as they battled back ultimately taking the doubles round. Washington trailed by one point going into singles.

The Dawgs struggled to come back after the deficit, losing three out of the six singles singles matches. Cesar Bouchelaghem's match against No. 50 Alexander Bernard was a highlight of the night, winning 6-3, 6-2.Β Β
Dzianis Zharyn also put up a good fight against No. 10 Aidan Kim, winning one out of two finished sets against the top ten ranked player. He was up 6-5 in the last set about to play out the match point when Penn State clinched the match.Β
TheΒ match concluded with a 4-1 final score.

"Today was a tough battle. Ohio State is one of the top programs in the country. They have played for a National Championship over the last few years. They are continuously top five in the country every year and we went toe-to-toe with them today," said Head Coach Rahim Esmail.
"I am proud of the way we competed today and look forward to getting better this week."

Next up, the Dawgs hit the road to take on Oregon next Saturday at 2 p.m.
