Washington Adds Indiana Transfer, Former 5 Star Prospect Bryson Tucker
April 21, 2025 | Men's Basketball
SEATTLE – Washington head men's basketball coach Danny Sprinkle continues to build the Husky roster for the 2025-26 season through the transfer portal, signing former Indiana forward Bryson Tucker.
Tucker is the fifth four star transfer prospect addition of the offseason for Washington, joining Lathan Sommerville, Quimari Peterson, Jacob Ognacevic and Wesley Yates to give UW 247Sports 10th ranked transfer class.
Tucker was one of the nation's most sought after high school prospects a year ago, boasting five star status per 247Sports composite rankings. The Bowie, Maryland, native was ranked No. 21 in his class, the seventh ranked small forward and the top player in Virginia.
"Bryson is a huge addition for us," Sprinkle said. "We needed another wing that can really score and had experience with the Big Ten schedule. He had some really good games playing on a really talented Indiana team. He was very well coached and that was important for a lot of the kids that we're bringing in through the portal. We wanted to make sure they were coming from really good programs who know what a winning culture looks like and he brings that."
During his true freshman season at Indiana, Tucker averaged 5.4 points and 2.9 rebounds over 23 games.
While serving in a reserve role for a veteran Hoosier lineup, Tucker showed the ability to assert himself in games, posting 12 points on 5-of-7 from the field while grabbing six rebounds in his second-ever collegiate game against Eastern Illinois. Two games later, Tucker knocked down 5-of-9 attempts and converted 4-of-5 free throws en route to 14 points in Indiana's win over UNCG.
In his first Big Ten action, Tucker put up his top offensive performance of the season. In just 20 minutes, the Bishop O'Connell High School posted 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting, chipping in six rebounds.
"Bryson can really score the basketball and he has great size," Sprinkle said. "He played behind some really good wings at Indiana and he was the only true freshman on that roster. That's probably why his minutes were kind of sporadic but I think we're going to get the best of him. He's coming in with a chip on his shoulder but the one thing I really love is he can really score the ball at the wing spot and create his own shot, which is something we struggled with last year.
"Adding him next to Wesley (Yates), Quimari (Peterson), Zoom (Diallo) and some of our freshmen, I'm really excited where our guard and wing play is at."
As a high school prep, Tucker was one of the most lauded recruits in the nation. A 2024 McDonald's All-American, he was a consensus top-30 recruit, with both ESPN and Rivals ranking the 6-7 forward as a five star prospect.
Additionally, Tucker won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2021 FIBA Americas Championship, averaging 9.5 points and 4.3 rebounds during the tournament.
Tucker has also attended several camps with the top talent in the nation, taking part in the NBPA Top 100 Camp in 2022 and 2023, Stephen Curry's Camp in 2022 and 2023, the 2022 Under Armour Elite 24 Camp in 2022 and 2023, and Jayson Tatum's Elite Camp in 2023.
Tucker brings an elite college basketball pedigree to Montlake, with his father, Byron, racking up 1,033 points, 595 rebounds and 98 blocks over 66 college games between NC State and George Mason.
