McLaughlin Named Big Ten Defensive Player Of The Week - University of Washington Athletics

SEATTLE – Washington's Alex McLaughlin has been tabbed the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced this afternoon.

This is McLaughlin's first Big Ten weekly honor and the first for Washington this season.

McLaughlin had the game-sealing pick-6 in Saturday's 17-10 win over Nebraska. It was his third return for a touchdown in two seasons with a fumble return against UCLA and another interception return against Washington State last season. McLaughlin also tallied nine tackles and 0.5 TFLs in the contest. McLaughlin has two game-icing interceptions this season with his season-opening one over Washington State as well.

McLaughlin has been a staple for the UW defense this season with a team-high 57 tackles, 7.0 TFLs, 2.5 sacks, four pass breakups and one forced fumble. His three interceptions ranks 16th in the FBS and second in the Big Ten this season.

Washington will be back in action this weekend (Nov. 7) for Homecoming against Penn State at Husky Stadium. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. PT and airing on FS1. Visit GoHuskies.com/FBTickets.
