
Sayvia Sellers Recognized As USBWA National Player Of The Week

INDIANAPOLIS — Washington women's basketball guard Sayvia Sellers has been named one of five honorees for the U.S. Basketball Writers Association National Player of the Week after leading the Huskies with a career-high 38 points in a gutsy road win against No. 16 Maryland. This is the second time this season Sellers has been recognized by the USBWA.
Sellers sank a career-best 15 buckets against the Terrapins, including a tough, contested layup in the final seconds of overtime to give the Huskies the lead. The junior dished out six assists, collected four rebounds, and notched two blocks and two steals. She became the first Husky since Kelsey Plum in 2014 to record at least 35 points, five assists, and multiple steals and blocks.
She also dropped another six dimes in Monday's contest against Rutgers. This marks the third time in the junior's career that she's dished out at least six assists in back-to-back games.
Against Illinois, Sellers continued to stuff the stat sheet, finishing the afternoon with 17 points on 6-for-10 shooting, four assists, and two steals. Sellers finished tied for the team lead with three blocks, a mark that matches her career-best. The three swats helped the Huskies finish with a season-high 10 blocks against the Fighting Illini.
Sellers finished the week with a well-balanced stat line of 22.0 points, 5.3 assists, and 2.0 blocks. The junior shot 52.1% from the field and knocked down 25 shots.
With her stellar week, Sellers continues to climb the Big Ten leaderboard in scoring categories. She currently ranks ninth in the conference with 19.2 points per game and 10th in field goals made per game with 7.3. Her 1,189 career points are 24th most in school history, standing at that spot as a junior.
