SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – After playing two rounds in one day, the Washington women's golf team capped off a strong start to the Juli Inkster Invitational with a fourth-place finish out of 14 teams. The Huskies trail California, Santa Clara, and San Jose State heading into the final round.
Mads Smith had a standout opening round with three birdies to post a score of 69. Smith followed with a three-over-par second round to wrap the day at even par with a score of 144.
Wendy Tang and Amber Li followed Smith on the Husky lineup, both tied for 18th with three-over on the leaderboard. Tang started the day with one-over in round one before carding a two-over in round two. Li tallied two-over in the first round, followed by one-over in the afternoon with a total score of 147 for them both.
Carmen Lim carded two birdies and two bogeys in round one to even par, then shot five-over in round two for a total of 149, tied for 29th going into the final day.
Athena Ni carded a 75 in the opening round and followed with an 81 in the second round, bringing her two-round total to 156 and placing her tied for 63rd overall.
"I'm really proud of the effort today," said head coach Anna Temple. "We've been working on some new things and to see more of a commitment to the things we can control was great. Mads put together a really solid round in the morning and we had a lot of consistent play to back up that play."
The Huskies will return to TPC Harding Park for the final 18 holes on Tuesday, starting at 8:50 a.m.
