Washington Upsets No. 29 San José State And Advances To Round Two

SEATTLE – No. 35 Washington upset No. 29 San José State in the first round of regionals, earning a 195.550–195.000 victory.
Washington opened the meet on bars, delivering its top event of the night with a 49.150. Mary McDonough and Lilly Tubbs led the rotation with matching 9.900s to tie for first. The score marked Tubbs' sixth 9.900 or higher this season, while McDonough matched her career-high. Evelyn DeYoung added a career-best 9.825 in just her third appearance in the bars lineup, placing fourth overall, and Deiah Moody rounded out the rotation with a 9.800.
The Huskies then moved to vault, recording a 48.725. Tubbs and Jessica Schaffer led the rotation with matching 9.775s, tying for third overall. McDonough and Lana Navarro followed with 9.750s, while Kristin Lin and Kira Bolden each added 9.675s to close out the event.
On floor, Washington delivered on one of its strongest events, posting a 49.125. Lin and Navarro paced the rotation with 9.850s, tying for second overall and marking a season-high for Navarro. Caitlin McWilliams followed with a 9.825, while Bolden and Chelsea Hallinan each contributed 9.800s.
Washington closed the meet on beam with a 48.550. Tubbs once again led the way with a 9.900 to take first overall, marking her third 9.900 on beam this season after adding the event to her lineup this year. Moody followed with a 9.875 to place second overall, and Lin added a 9.700.
Lin capped off the night with a 38.950 in the all-around.
