June 15, 2026 | Women's Tennis
SEATTLE – Washington women's tennis head coach Robin Stephenson has announced the signing of Alexia Marginean. Marginean makes her way to Montlake after her freshman season at LSU.
"Alexia is going to be an excellent addition to the team," Stephenson said. From everything we have heard and all our interactions with her, she is exactly the type of person and competitor that will thrive in our program."
Marginean joins a Husky squad that is returning all eligible players next season – Alexia Jacobs, Karolina Kozakova, Waverly Potter, Jermine Sherif, Zehra Suko, Carina Syrtveit and Marie Weissheim. UW is also welcoming an incoming freshman in Nela Jandova and fellow transfer Marina Markina (Old Dominion).
"She's a team first person, a relentless competitor, a hard worker and has a personality that will be a joy to be around," Stephenson added. "We are so excited she chose to be a husky and can't wait to see her development and the impact she will have. The future is a little brighter with Alexia in it!"
Following the fall season, Marginean was ranked alongside her doubles partner in the ITA rankings, coming in at No. 41. The duo went 3-0 as a pair at the TCU Fall Open with their victories coming over pairs from Clemson, North Carolina and Georgia.
In the spring, Marginean competed at the No. 3 doubles spot – with a couple appearances at the No. 2 position – and compiled an 11-6 record. In singles, she held an 8-8 record at the No. 6 position. As a team, LSU advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals before falling to Auburn.
Before enrolling at LSU, Marginean was ranked No. 892 in WTA singles and is a 10-time Romanian National Champion in singles and doubles. She won her first singles title in 2022 at the J5 ITF in Buchares. In 2023, Marginean reached the quarterfinal of the ITF W15 Bucharest and won her first professional title at the ITF W15 Buzau.
