UW Men. Finish As Runner-Up In Temple Challenge Cup At Henley
July 05, 2026 | Men's Rowing
HENLEY-ON-THAMES, U.K. – The Washington men staged a late come back, but couldn't overcome an experienced Cambridge eight Sunday in the final of The Temple Challenge Cup at Henley Royal Regatta.
The Husky crew, made up of members of the Huskies' second and third varsity eights from this past season, finished as runner-up in a field of 32 crews, winning races four days in a row prior to Sunday's final.
The Cambridge eight, which included members who have rowed in The Boat Race vs. Oxford, grabbed the lead early in the race and were in front by as much as a length. As the crews reached the huge crowd along the Thames, Washington made a move to cut the gap, but the Light Blues held off the Husky charge and won the race by 2/3 of a length.
Washington had previously won The Temple Challenge Cup in 2010, 2012 and 2018, and were runner-up in 2022.
The Husky men also brought a crew that competed in The Ladies' Challenge Plate. That eight reached the semifinals.
