Williams Jr. Named One Of The Manning Stars Of The Week
September 21, 2026 | Football
SEATTLE – Washington's Demond Williams Jr. has been named one of the eight Manning Stars of the Week, the Allstate Sugar Bowl announced this morning.
Joining Williams Jr. is Jaden Craig (TCU), Trinidad Chambliss (Ole Miss), Colton Joseph (Wisconsin), Jaron Keawe-Sagapolutele (Cal), Darian Mensah (Miami), Kenny Minchey (Kentucky) and John Alan Richter (Toledo).
Williams Jr. threw for 373 yards in the Huskies' win over Eastern Washington on Saturday completing 27 of his 33 passes. He is the first Husky since Sept. 16, 2023 to throw for four touchdown passes in a half since Michael Penix Jr. did so at Michigan State. The four touchdown passes also tied a career-high for Williams Jr. and is tied for the eighth-most in a game by a Husky quarterback. The game also marked the third time in Williams Jr.'s career to eclipse the 300-yard passing mark – also doing so against Rutgers (2025) and against Louisville in the Sun Bowl (2024).
The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes candidates' bowl performances in its balloting. Since the Manning Award began recognizing Stars of the Week in 2011, 618 different quarterbacks from 138 schools have been recognized.
