Women's Cross Country in NCAA Championship Meet
Nov. 16, 1998
SEATTLE - The ninth-ranked Washington women's cross country team will compete at the NCAA Championship Meet after receiving one of 13 at-large berths announced on Monday.
The 31-team NCAA championship meet is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 23 at the Rim Rock Farm course in Lawrence, Kansas.
The Washington women make their seventh NCAA championship appearance, their fourth in the last five years. The Huskies placed 14th at last year's NCAA race.
Washington placed third at the West Regional competition on Saturday, finishing behind second-ranked Stanford and No. 11 Arizona. The top-two teams from each region received automatic NCAA berths.
"All season long, our goal was to make it to the NCAAs," said second-year Washington coach Greg Metcalf. "We're excited that we get to run again. I think a top-10 finish is realistic."
The Washington men's team did not qualify for the championships, however, junior David Bazzi and senior Christian Belz will compete as individuals.
