UW Women's Tennis Downs Oregon, 6-3

SEATTLE - The Washington women's tennis team, ranked 34th in the nation, won four of six singles matches and two doubles matches to 43rd-ranked Oregon, 6-3, on Sunday at the Bill Quillian Stadium. Washington improves their record to 10-6 and 3-2 in Pac-10 competition. The Huskies next match will be against 5th-ranked Arizona State on Apr. 7 at 1:30 p.m. in Phoenix, Ariz.
In singles competition, playing in the No. 1 slot, top ranked junior Kristina Kraszewski downed 65th-ranked Alina Wygonowska, 6-2, 6-2, while in the No. 2 slot, 58th-ranked Moniek Gieczys defeated sophomore Ilona Kordonskaya, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. In the third slot, 88th-ranked senior Zuzana Stunova lost to Janice Nyland, 7-6, 6-1, while in the No. 4 slot, freshman Colleen Gray stopped Adeline Arnaud, 6-2, 6-1. Senior Zeta Wagner won in the fifth position by defeating Jeannette Mattsson, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6, while senior Peggy Wu downed Valerie Young, 6-1, 6-1, in the sixth position.
In the top position of doubles competition, Kristina Kraszewski and Peggy Wu slaughtered Janice Nyland and Moniek Gieczys. Ilona Kordonskaya and Zuzana Stunova lost in the second position to Alina Wygonowska and Adeline Arnaud, 8-3, while Colleen Gray and Zeta Wagner defeated Valerie Young and Lisa Cummings, 9-8, in the third slot.
