UW Men's Golf Prepares for Pac-10 Tournament

COMING UP: The Washington men's golf team will take on the rest of the Pac-10 at the conference championship, April 24-26. Arizona State will host the championship as well as go for a sixth straight conference title on their own par-72, 7,026-yard Karsten Golf Course in Tempe. Washington finished fourth in last year's tournament. Sun Devil standout Paul Casey has taken the last two individual conference titles. Two Huskies finished in last year's top-10, sophomores Troy Kelly and Gordy Scutt, who finished 4th and 6th respectively.
The Pac-10 Championship is played in a six, score five format. Senior Justin Miller will make his first appearance of the year on the Husky Lineup, joining fellow senior Scott Kral, sophomores Scutt and Kelly, and freshmen Derek Berg and John Robertson.
Tee times begin at 7:30 a.m., Monday, April 24, with 36 holes being played that day. The teams will meet for another round on Tuesday and the tournament will be decided with a final 18 holes on Wednesday.
THE FIELD: Teams will compete in pairs on Monday, April 24th as follows: Oregon/Arizona State, Oregon State/Washington, Stanford/UCLA, USC/Washington State, Arizona/ California.
LAST TIME: The Washington men's golf team improved two places from a first-day 15th-place standing and finished 13th with a score of 886 at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational. Arizona State claimed their own tournament's team title with an 18-under score of 846. State rival Arizona was the runner-up, two strokes off the top score with 848. ASU's Paul Casey recorded triple 69s to capture individual medalist honors. Derek Gillespie of Arizona fired a 68 in round three but finished one stroke back from Casey with 208. Sophomore Gordy Scutt had the highest finish for Washington with a 28th-place score of 218. Senior Scott Kral was next in for Washington with a three-round total of 220.
