UW Men's Golf Prepares for West Regional

COMING UP: The 23rd-ranked Washington men's golf team will head for Fresno, Calif., for the Division I NCAA West Regional, May 18-20. The event will be hosted by Fresno State and will take place on the 6,966-yard Riverbend Golf Course.
Teams will meet for a practice round on Wednesday, May 17, and round one will begin the following day at 7:12 a.m. Three rounds will be played with teams competing for a spot in the NCAA national tournament. The two individuals with the lowest scores from teams who do not make the national tournament will be selected to travel as individuals.
THE FIELD: The West Regional field will be made of 27 teams and six individuals as follows:
TEAMS: BYU, Fresno State, New Mexico, Colorado State, San Diego State, UTEP, Arizona State, UNLV, Arizona, Oregon, Oregon State, California, Stanford, UCLA, Washington, Pepperdine, Southern California, Long Beach State, Pacific, Cal State Northridge, Idaho, Princeton, Wright State, Navy, Towson State, Iona, Maryland-Baltimore County.
INDIVIDUALS: David Hearn (Wyoming), Ryan Ellis (Utah), Ryan Earl (Portland), Ryan Nelson (Portland), Ray Otis (Nevada), and Scott Lieberwirth (New Mexico State).
LAST TIME: The Washington men's golf team finished a disappointing seventh with a score of 1450 at the Pac-10 Championship in Tempe, Arizona. Host school Arizona State was unstoppable, leading the event on all three days, finishing with a 56-under team total of 1384. Oregon State was not a threat in the two slot with a 19-under 1421. Paul Casey led the way for the Sun Devils, capturing individual medalist honors with a score of 265. Oregon State's Tim Mickelson was next in line for the title with a mark of 275. For Washington, sophomore Gordy Scutt made the only appearance as a top-20 finisher, winding up in 16th place with a score of 285. Troy Kelly had the next lowest total for the Huskies with an at-par 288.
